Alf Dybing's Obituary
Alf Bernard Dybing, 77, rural Maddock, was called home to his heavenly father on Sunday, January 15, 2017 after a six year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Viking Church, Rural Maddock with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral service at the church.
Alf was born April 23, 1939 to Gabe and Gertie (Elken) Dybing at Maddock. He attended Lynne Country School and graduated from the Benson County Agricultural School in 1957. Alf studied mechanics at Wahpeton State School of Science and took some agricultural courses at North Dakota State University in Fargo. He returned to the family farm to work in partnership with his father.
Alf married the love of his life, Agnes Mullenberg, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bremen, ND on June 21, 1969. Alf and Agnes resided on the family farm south of Maddock until his health required him to move to Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake.
Alf was a lifelong member of the Viking Lutheran church. He was active in church boards, Farmers Union, Sons of Norway, and served on the Central Plains Water District board for over 40 years bringing rural water to many communities.
Alf loved playing cards, old time music and restoring old tractors. He spoke fluent Norwegian and made seven trips to Norway. The last trip was most special as his adult children accompanied him to see his father's birth place and visit cousins.
Alf enjoyed visiting with people, made friends easily and loved to discuss local history. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren on the family farm.
Alf is survived by his wife, Agnes; daughter Allison (Daniel) Driessen of Devils Lake; son Alan (Julie) Dybing of Fargo and grandchildren Gauge and Henley Driessen and Lilly and Gabriel Dybing. sister Jean Nelson of Fargo; sisters-in-law and brothers- in-law, David and Teresa Lisko of Pelican Rapids, MN and Roger and Clara Mullenberg of West Fargo and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceeded in death by his parents; a brother; Alvin, and in-laws; Winand and Irma Mullenberg.
