Alvina Schaefer, 94, Drake, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home in Drake with burial at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Drake. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 2 pm at the funeral home.
Alvina Schlager, daughter of George and Louise (Bohl) Schlager, was born June 30, 1919 at Robinson, ND where she grew up and received her education.
On Sept. 8, 1939 she was married to Daniel Schaefer at McClusky. They made their home and farmed south of Drake until Mr. Schaefer passed away in October of 1973. Alvina then moved into Drake where she resided until entering the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in September of 2008.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Senior Citizens Club and the David D. Nehrenberg American Legion Post #32 Auxiliary, all of Drake.
She is survived by her daughter, Devonne (Jim) Roder of Drake; daughter-in-law, Marlene Schaefer of Bismarck; 6 grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Michele, Danielle, Kelsey and Nita; 4 great-grandchildren, Tawny, Bryen, Jordin and Shayla; and 1 sister, Clara Posey of Washington state.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; son, Galen; daughter, Diane Darby; 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and son-in-law, Dwight Darby.
