Obituary

Anne L. Hoff, 90, Bowdon, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington. Her funeral will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at the Bowdon Lutheran Church with burial in the Wayside Cemetery of Bowdon. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Nelson funeral Home in Fessenden.

Anna Louise Patzer, daughter of Adam and Milicina (Knopp) Patzer, was born July 24, 1929 on a farm north of Chaseley ND. Her family later moved into Hurdsfield, where Anne graduated from Hurdsfield High School in 1947. She then taught school in the Chaseley area for a short time.

Anne married James Hoff on October 30, 1948 at Bowdon. Jim and Anne made their home at the Melvin Hoff farm south of Bowdon for a short time. In 1951 they moved to the Mielke homestead, a mile to the east. They purchased this farm and made their living here for 28 years farming, dairying, and raising cattle.

Anne's home was always a favorite visiting place for relatives and friends. She will be remembered for the frequent Sunday gatherings she and Jim hosted at the farm. There were many meals, lots of conversation and laughter, and ball games out in the big yard. Anne fulfilled a longtime dream in 1979 when she and Jim built a new house in Bowdon. Their home in town continued to be a good place to stop for coffee, cookies, and conversation around the kitchen table. Jim died in 1993. Anne continued living in Bowdon until her health required her to move in 2018.

Anne has been a member of Bowdon Lutheran Church since 1948. She served for years with other Bowdon Lutheran volunteers in making quilts for those in need. She served as treasurer of the ELCA for 28 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as treasurer for 38 years. She was also a member of the Harvey Eagles. Anne continued to stay busy in her retirement years. She enjoyed embroidery, gardening, working puzzles, corresponding with family and friends, quilting, pie-making, feeding the songbirds outside her window, and the occasional trip to the farm.

Anne is survived by sons Rodney (Marilyn) and Anton, former daughter-in-law Mary Hoff, and by grandchildren Salome (Andrew) Hoff McFarlane, Erica (Kehni) Hoff Oyetunji, Brady Hoff, Josalynne (Jesse) Hoff Rue, Philip (Whitney) Hoff, Christopher Hoff, David (Roxane) Fike, Kris (Dave) Fike Gut, and Kim (Bob) Fike Blotsky. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter, and by sister-in-law Mabel Dockter and brother-in-law Ernest Hoff. Anne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, and her son Gardell. She was also preceded in death by all of her brothers Reuben, Alfred, Otto, Salmer, Harold, and Herbert, and all of her sisters, Maggie Rall, Ida Gardner, and Irene Miller.
