Ardell Rappuhn, 91, Fargo, formerly of Fessenden, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at his home in Fargo surrounded by his loving family. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, a private service will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Fessenden with burial in the Hillside Cemetery of Fessenden. Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden.

Ardell Dale Rappuhn, son of Charley and Pauline (Streibel) Rappuhn, was born March 2, 1929 at Harvey. He grew up on the family farm near Emrick where he attended school through the eighth grade. Following his graduation from Fessenden High School in 1947, Ardell attended the North Dakota Agricultural College. Now NDSU in Fargo.

In 1951, Ardell entered the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in 1953, he returned to Emrick and began farming with his father and brother.

On June 29, 1954, Ardell was united in marriage to Betty Christianson at St. Thomas, ND. They made their home on the Rappuhn family farm until moving to Fessenden in 1969. For many years, Ardell and Betty spent their winter months in Orlando, FL and returned to Fessenden for the summer months. Ardell remained involved in the family farm until recently.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the Frank Proisl American Legion Post #33 of Fessenden.

Ardell is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty; his children, Rodney Rappuhn of West Fargo, Terry Ann (Russell) Verdegan of Ladysmith, WI and Randy (Janine) Rappuhn of Fessenden; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; sister, Elda; and 3 brothers, Elmer, Leslie and Lewis.
