Arlo M. Unterseher, 94, of Bismarck, ND and formerly of Bowdon, ND passed away August 10, 2026 at the CHI St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND. A graveside service will be held on September 20th at 11:00 AM at the Wayside Cemetery, Bowdon, ND followed by a celebration of life and lunch at the Bowdon Community Center.

Arlo, son of Albert and Alvina (Bietz) Unterseher, was born September 21, 1931. He grew up on the family farm and enjoyed playing baseball and basketball as a young lad. He liked to remind us that he was the only sophomore that made the Bowdon High School varsity team that went on to the North Dakota State Basketball Championship tournament that year. Arlo married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann Buchmiller on October 4, 1951. They made their home on a farm outside of Bowdon where they raised livestock, small grains and five children; Launa, Todd, Wade, Lori and Kyle.

Most of their fun family events happened on the softball diamond and on numerous fishing and camping trips. Arlo's favorite past time was both playing and watching others play softball. Once a week during the summer, Arlo left the farm to play for his local team and was known for his ”POPEYE” home runs where on a single night he hit two home runs after consuming a can of spinach prior to the game. He played softball until he was 52 years old and in his last year, everyone in his family (Launa, Kelly, Todd, Jill, Wade, Cathy, Lori and Kyle) all played in the McQuade’s (world’s largest) softball tournament.

Arlo is survived by: Two daughters: Launa (Kelly) Moldenhauer and their children: Jody (Robb) Eckert, Chad (Stacy) in Bismarck, ND; Lori (Rick) Woodward and their children: Sheena (Kipp) Kambietz, Rikki (Justin) Bosh in Bismarck, and Bobbi (Adam) Hall in CO. Two Sons: Todd (Jill) Unterseher and their children: Mitch (Amanda), Aaron, and Kylee (Jeff) Litton in Bis/Man ND; Kyle (Claire) Unterseher, Chicago and their children: Jack, Palm Beach, FL, EJ, NYC, Kate, Chicago and Adam, Charlotte, NC. One daughter-in-law: Cathy (Wade) Unterseher and their children Slade (Hailey), Minot, ND, Cheyenne (Riley)Schriefer, Golden Valley, ND and Cassidy (Zac) Peterson, Velva, ND.

Arlo was blessed with 22 great grand-children and is also survived by one sister-in-law, Jeanne Unterseher of Ooltewah, TN, and one brother-in-law, Jerome Fike of Bowdon, ND.

Arlo was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley and son Wade. Sisters: Karen Fike, Gleniece Zielen and Marlene Page.Brothers: Alden, Loren and Dennis Unterseher.
