Art Weigelt, 94, Fessenden, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021. A private funeral will be held Saturday, January 9 at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Fessenden with burial at the Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden. Arthur Harold Weigelt, son of Henry H. and Amelia L. (Albus) Weigelt, was born February 15, 1926 on the Weigelt family farm near Fessenden where he was raised and lived his entire life. He received his education at Fessenden Public School where he participated in basketball and in track as a pole vaulter. As a sophomore, Art was named to the All Conference and All District basketball tournament teams.

Following his graduation in 1944, Art traveled to Seattle to enlist in the Navy. He was honorably discharged later that year due to medical problems and returned to Fessenden where he worked for a short time at the Wells County Free Press as a type-setter on the Linotype machine. He then began helping his father farm the land his father homesteaded.

On August 11, 1953, Art was united in marriage to Elaine Strauss in Fessenden. He continued to farm with his father and brother Albert until their retirement and later farmed with his son Mike. Following his retirement in 1991, Art continued to help his son and grandsons on the farm for many years. Farming was what he knew and loved to be a part of, whether he was actively farming or just taking drives checking on the crops.

Art served on the Fessenden Co-Op Elevator Board of Directors from 1972 to 1993 and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

In his earlier years he enjoyed bowling and golfing, and was involved in building the Fessenden club house many years ago. He also enjoyed watching the Twins and Vikings games, spending a few hours at the casinos and playing card games which he usually won. In his later years, he tried his hand at cooking and baking and even tried making apricot jelly. Art was a jack of all trades and could fix most anything. Most of all, Art enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events - he rarely missed a game.

He is survived by his 4 children, Pam (Mike) Srur of Burnsville, MN, Mike (Shelly) Weigelt of Fessenden, Lynn (Carl) Monico of Omaha, NE and Pat (Amy) Weigelt of Fessenden; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Art's final wish was to be laid to rest next to his loving wife of 57 years, Elaine, who passed away in 2010. Also preceding him in death were his parents; 1 sister, Edna; and 4 brothers, Herbert, Clarence, Rueben and Albert.
