Arthur A. Schmidt, 89, Minot, formerly of Anamoose, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at Trinity Homes nursing home in Minot. His funeral will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Anamoose with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 pm to 7 pm at the church, followed by a 7 pm prayer service. Arrangements with Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home of Drake.

Arthur Schmidt, son of Hubert and Emma (Rudnick) Schmidt, was born June 14, 1924 on his parents farm near Anamoose where he was raised. He began farming with his father and brothers at an early age. Art attended Anamoose Public School graduating from high school in 1942.

On October 22, 1957 he was married to Evelyn Koble. They made their home on a farm northwest of Anamoose where they raised their family and continued to farm. In addition to farming, Art enjoyed carpentry work and took on many jobs in the Anamoose area through the years. Following his retirement in 2002 they moved to Minot. He had been a resident of Trinity Homes since 2011.

Art was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church until transferring his membership to St. Leo's Catholic Church when they moved to Minot. He served as board member and township supervisor of Anamoose Township for a number of years and was a member of the Harvey Eagles Club. He loved to play cards and listen to old time music.

Art is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn; two sons, Melvin of Stevens Point, WI and Marvin of Federal Heights, CO; 1 daughter, Michelle Schmidt of Minot; 4 grandchildren, Lyza, Jason, Garrett (Amanda) and Preston Schmidt; and one brother, Donald (Agnes) Schmidt of Harvey.

He was preceded in death by one son, Michael; one grandson, Jordan Thomas Schmidt; his parents and one brother, Ralph.
