Bertha Degenstein, 87, Drake, passed away Monday, February 6, 2017 a the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey. Her funeral will be held Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home in Drake.
Bertha Fenner, daughter of August and Rosina (Gross) Fenner, was born March 29, 1929 at Drake. She grew up on the Fenner family farm north of Drake and attended a nearby country school.
On October 15, 1946 she was married to Philip Degenstein at Drake where they made their home and raised their family. Bertha was employed as a Certified Nurses Assistant at St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey for a number of years.
Bertha enjoyed working with the flowers in her garden, quilting, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Drake.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Judy) of Missouri, Clarence of Mohall, Elaine (LeRoy) Miller of Drake, Roger (Sheila) of Oakes, Russell of Drake and Richard (Jolene) of Fond du Lac, WI; daughter-in-law, Geri Degenstein of Bismarck; 32 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Loren and John Fenner both of Minot.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband Philip who passed away on February 18, 1980; her son, Philip; grandson, Thad Johnson; her parents; 6 sisters, Martha Hoffer, Ella Frey, Esther Hoffer, Hilda Heidt, Rose Rudd, and Freda Pepple; and 3 brothers, Herman, Arthur and Walter Fenner.
