Betty H. Heiden, 84, New Rockford, formerly of Heaton and Jamestown, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford. Her funeral will be held Tuesday, September 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bowdon Lutheran Church in Bowdon with burial in the Heaton Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.

Betty Ann Hanson, daughter of John and Gladwin (Covell) Hanson, was born August 21, 1931 on the family farm which was homesteaded in 1884 and remains in the family today. She received her early education in the Cottonwood Country School and later attended Heaton High School, graduating in 1949. In July of 1949, Betty began working at the Farmer's State Bank in Heaton.

On November 21, 1953 she was married to Orval Heiden in Heaton. Betty continued to work at the Farmer's State Bank of Heaton for 33 years, until it closed in 1982. In addition to working at the bank, Betty farmed with her husband until his death in 1982 and continued to help with the farming operation until moving to Jamestown in 1991. In 2009 she entered the Hi-Acres Nursing Home in Jamestown and had been a resident of the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford since 2013.

Betty was a member of the Bowdon Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Sheila (Curtis) Wiesz of rural Bowdon and Nancy Heiden of West Fargo; 2 grandsons, Donovan (Krystal) Wiesz and Jeremy (Veronica) Wiesz; 3 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Hailey and Austin; brother, Bobby (Sally) Hanson of Sioux Falls, SD; half-sister, Ann Hanson Stotz of Bismarck; step-brothers, Harold Liedtke of Henderson, NV and James Liedtke of Aberdeen, SD; and step-sister, Gertrude Johnson of Bismarck.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and one sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Francis Fiebick.
