Betty Jean Nelson, 87, rural Maddock, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 15th at St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey, ND lovingly surrounded by family and friends. Her funeral will be held Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 11:00 A. M. at the Viking Lutheran Church of rural Maddock with burial at the Klara Lutheran Cemetery of rural Heimdal. Visitation will be held Friday, March 24, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.

Betty Solin, was born on January 11, 1930 on a farm in Wells County to parents John Arthur and Minnie (Berglund) Solin. She was baptized and confirmed in the Klara Lutheran Church north of Heimdal. She grew up on the family farm, helping with all of the chores, including milking cows before going to school in Heimdal.

Betty married Clarence S. Nelson on May 18, 1947 in Maddock. They made their home on Clarence's family farm where she lived the rest of her life. She loved helping raise cattle and chickens and also helped with the field work, especially combining. Caring for her yard and planting flowers were very important to her. Her bouquets found their way to many church altars to help beautify the church for services. She taught Sunday School and enjoyed her Homemakers group where she was a member for many years.

Clarence and Betty had one son, Gary.

Left to mourn her passing are grandson, Chris (Nicole) Nelson, granddaughter, Paula Nelson and grandson, David Nelson.; great-grandchildren, Corey and John Fletcher and Adrianna Nelson; sister, Marian Kramer; sister-in-law, Darlene Solin and niece, Pam (Robert) Stirling. Also surviving are her dear best friend (since the first grade) Della Hoff and new friend & neighbor Bertha Martin.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Clarence who passed away October 5, 1997; her son Gary; brothers Allen and Cyril Solin, brother Clarence Olson; brother-in-law, Lester Kramer; sister-in-law, Lenora Solin; nephew, Ricky Solin and niece, Becky Solin.
