Carla A. Bromley, 77, of Harvey, ND and formerly of Anamoose, ND, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2026 at the St. John’s Medical Center in Maplewood, MN. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 11, 2026 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake, ND with Pastor Steve Files officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at the St. John’s Norfolk Cemetery in rural Drake.

Carla was born January 10, 1949 to Harold and Violet (Krossbakken) Hanson in Harvey, ND. She was raised surrounded with love and educated in Drake but unfortunately was diagnosed with grand mal epilepsy at age 12 after a head injury and relied on medication the rest of her life to keep that condition under control. When Carla was age 14, she was bit by an infected mosquito and lost her memory due to sleeping sickness. She was unable to finish school due to those circumstances, but persevered regardless and was able to regain and relearn what was lost during her illness. Carla lost her mom to a heart attack far too young at age 17 and her father was paralyzed from the waist down a year before that due to a construction accident collapse. She worked hard to help her family cope and move forward along with caring for her younger siblings. Carla fell in love and was united in marriage to Myron Bromley in 1967, at age 18, and had 3 wonderful children together. They later divorced, tragically Myron was killed in a car accident in 1979.

In 1980, Carla met Leroy Vollmer and moved out to their farm north of Anamoose. The happy farming couple raised cattle, chickens, pigs and planted crops. Carla gave birth to twins, Casey and Cody, in 1986. She raised them on the farm along with many litters of Border Collie pups over the years and enjoyed watching the boys playing sports and coaching them for baseball. These were by far the best years of her life and she loved her family so deeply and sacrificed so much for the common good. Carla also loved to journal and had entries for every day since 1980 up until now, and also wrote a 200 plus page autobiography of her life struggles during this time which are now prized possessions that the family will cherish.

She loved gardening and always had a yard full of flowers and bountiful gardens with her famous green thumb, she could make anything grow. In 2006, after the boys graduated high school, Carla and Leroy retired and moved off the farm and into a charming home in Harvey and enjoyed their neighbors and friends dearly. LeRoy tragically passed away in 2009, and Carla continued to live independently in Harvey, but enjoyed spending time with grandkids and family in Bismarck and had many more memorable years with her sister Nancy and extended family. Carla often would stay in Bismarck more regularly after 2018, with medical appointments and making many precious memories with grandkids and living life to the fullest up until the present day. She was a mother to many and loved her family very deeply and always was included with family activities wherever it took her. Carla had a passion to strive forward and not let anything bring her down and had an infectious smile she took with her everywhere she went that kept her young at heart. She will be deeply missed and loved, but she continues to live on through her children and grandkids and we thank the good Lord for giving us so many years of pure joy with Carla.

Carla is survived by her children, Michael, Michelle, and Melinda, all of Minot, ND, Casey and Cody of Bismarck; 10 grandchildren, Megan, Miranda, Hannah, Ian, Cody, TJ, Daxton, Oaklee, Michael, and Fisher; great-grandchild, Navy; many numerous nieces and nephews that she cherished over the years.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Myron Bromley and her soul mate, LeRoy Vollmer; parents, Harold and Violet Hanson; three younger brothers and sisters; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to thank everyone who reached out to us over the past few weeks with prayers during her surgery and many thoughtful gestures and words of hope and love which made the final days of Carla's journey much easier to endure and accept. She continues to be our shining star in the dark of night that will guide us forward until we meet again.
