Carol Beck, 80, Fessenden, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey. Her funeral will be held Monday, July 23 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church in Fessenden with burial at the Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden. Visitation will be held Sunday, from 3 P.M. until 5 P.M. at the Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden.
Carol McGuiness, daughter of Howard and Ruth (Swanson) McGuiness, was born January 6, 1938 in Devils Lake, ND. She grew up in Fessenden where she attended Fessenden Public School, graduating in 1956. She then enrolled at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks where she graduated with a B.S. Degree in Education. While enrolled at UND, Carol was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.
On December 27, 1959, Carol was united in marriage to Chester (Chet) Beck in Fessenden. They lived in Minot until 1965 when they returned to Fessenden and took over the operation of the Beck family farm. In addition to helping with the farm operation, Carol taught school in Bowdon and Manfred for a time and later substitute taught in Fessenden. Chet passed away February 20, 1997.
Carol was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the Wells County Historical Society and the Literary Club, all of Fessenden.
Carol loved her children and her grandchildren. She also loved her friends, her neighbors and the house she lived in. She enjoyed going to church, staying busy outdoors, riding her bike around Fessenden, following Harvey Wells County sports, the Minnesota Vikings and Twins and listening to Elvis Presley.
She is survived by her children, Gail (Jim) Nelson of Fargo and Tim (Dawn) Beck of Fessenden; 4 grandchildren, Chris (Samantha McCoy) Nelson & Katie (Cory Loveless) Nelson and Hayden & Emily Beck; and her brother, Bruce (Sherry) McGuiness of Belle Fourche, SD.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Chet; her parents; and her sister, Jane Dickman.
