Carol Sellie, 86, rural Cathay, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016, in New Rockford, ND.

Carol Joan Wammer, daughter of Edwin and Clara (Larson) Wammer, was born February 4, 1930, at Roseau, MN. She was raised and educated in Badger, MN, graduating from Badger High School in 1948. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, and graduated in 1952 with a baccalaureate degree in Home Economics and minors in English and Education.

On June 9, 1952, Carol was united in marriage to John M. Sellie at Badger, MN. She taught school in Minnesota and Florida until John received his honorable discharge from the US Navy in 1954. They then made their home at rural Bremen where they continued to farm and raise cattle until 1980. In addition to assisting with the farming operation, Carol served as the NDSU Extension Home Economist for Wells, Foster and Eddy Counties from 1969 until retiring in 1994. Carol was awarded the National Association of Extension Home Economists Distinguished Service Award in 1980, the ND Outstanding Home Economist Award in 1983, the Meritorious Service Award from Epsilon Sigma Phi, in 1988, and was named to the 75th Anniversary Honor Roll of Home Economists by the ND Home Economics Association in 1984. She was a member of the ND Association of Extension Home Economics, the National Association of Extension Home Economics and the ND Home Economics Association. In addition to holding several officer positions, she served on the Executive Boards of the American Home Economics Association, the ND Nutrition Council and the Tri-County Home Economics Club.

Carol was also active in church, 4-H, and community affairs. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Fessenden where she served on the church and WELCA boards, and was co-chairperson of the church centennial celebration in 1999. She was also a member of the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd Board of Directors and was very involved in its expansion projects throughout those years. Carol served on the Dakota Prairie Regional Center for the Arts Board, the Prairie Concert Association Board and the Wells County Farm Bureau Women's Board. Carol and John enjoyed traveling and camping with family and friends. They maintained friendships through the years with several families of former Navy buddies of John's and made many new friends, traveling together throughout North Dakota while John served as North Dakota Republican State Chairman. Carol loved a glass of wine, a taste of chocolate, cooking and baking, and entertaining family and friends, as well as caring for the ever-present farm dogs.

She is survived by her son, Peter (Kathy) of Dickinson; son-in-law, C.T. Hanson, Fargo; grandchildren, Kristine, Kari and John Sellie-Hanson, all of Fargo; sister, Margaret (John) Bollingberg, Bremen, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband John in 2008; her twin daughters, Karen and Kristine; and her parents.

Funeral: Monday, February 22nd, at 11:00 a.m., at First Lutheran Church of Fessenden.
Burial: Eden Lutheran Cemetery, rural Bremen.
Visitation: Sunday, February 21st, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.
