Curtis L Benson Sr., 73, passed away January 16, 2021 at a Tacoma General Hospital. A Celebration of Life for Curtis will be Sunday, May 30, 2021 at the Heimdal Hall, Heimdal, North Dakota from 2:00-4:00PM. Private family burial will take place at Hoff Lutheran Cemetery, Heimdal, North Dakota. Local arrangement by Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden, ND.
Curt was born March 18, 1947, in Harvey, North Dakota to Lloyd and Alice Benson. Curt's father was in the Air Force which took the family all over the US, ending in Washington. Curt graduated from Mt Tahoma High School in 1965 where he met and married Lee Mello. He joined the United States Coast Guard in 1966 where he was privileged to serve in the White House Color Guard. During this time, he welcomed the birth of a daughter, Geri. He went on to graduate from a College with a degree in Criminal Justice and moved back to Washington.
Curt devoted over 20 years of his life protecting and serving Pierce County. He worked in various capacities at the Sheriff's office, retiring as their first Public Information Officer. He was very proud of his job there and the people he worked with. Curt moved back to his hometown to finish out his retired years with friends and family. In 2020, After the death of his wife, Lenore, Curt returned to Western Washington.
His interests included family, traveling, spending time at "cigar parties" with some of his besties from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, and especially his dear friend Lloyd Bird.
Curt is survived by his daughter, Geri and spouse Bryan from Chehalis; his sister Debbie Anderson from Fargo, ND; his brother Kenneth Berg from Rockton, Illinois; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife Lenore Benson, and son Curtis JR.
