Dagny Nellie Ellingson, Bismarck, formerly of Heimdal, passed away July 29, 2013, just ten days after her 99th birthday celebration.
Dagny was born on July 19, 1914 in Heimdal, daughter of Severin and Mina Rogness.
She attended school in Heimdal and graduated from BCATS in Maddock North Dakota in 1931.
She then attended Valley City State Teachers College. She married Ernest Ellingson in 1938 and they farmed in the Viking community until moving to Heimdal in 1948. She enjoyed a 30 year teaching career and volunteered at schools and at the library after retirement, talking with children and listening to them read.
She was a founder of the South Viking Homemakers Club and a member of the Hoff Lutheran Church, singing in the choir, serving as president of the Ladies Aid, and teaching Sunday School and Bible School.
She made two trips to Norway visiting with all 55 of her relatives and corresponded with them in Norwegian all her life. She was an avid quilter and gardener. She loved reading, poetry, helping people, and most of all, being with her family. Dagny always looked at the bright side of life and found the good in people, being kind, generous and compassionate to all. She was admired for her strong faith and trust in the Lord.
Dagny is survived by her loving children, Dale (Linda) Ellingson of Bismarck, Bruce (Connie) Ellingson of Bismarck, Linda (Steve) Swanson of Minneapolis and Monte (Edna) Ellingson of Crosby; 9 grandchildren, Connie, Corey (Tammy), Heidi, Ryan, Kyle, Elizabeth, Lydia, Kyle, Isaac and four great-grandchildren Lilly, Eleni, Brandon and Megan; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest in 1989; her parents, brothers Olav and Thor Rogness, and sisters Gudrun Berg and Ingrid Billigmeier Olson.
Funeral service will be held at Hoff Lutheran Church, Heimdal, North Dakota on Saturday August 10 at 3:00pm.
