Dallas Free, 79, Heimdal, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey.

Dallas Free, son of Leo and Ida (Knodel) Free, was born August 6, 1935 on a farm near Heaton, ND. He grew up in the rural Bowdon area and attended the nearby Bowman Consolidated School. As a young man, Dallas was employed by various farmers in the Bowdon area and worked road construction in South Dakota, which started his love of machinery and farming.

On New Years Eve of 1963, he met Garnet Skiftun at the Rainbow Gardens in Carrington. They were married on July 5, 1969 at Dillworth, MN and made their home in Bowdon. Dallas was employed with the Wells County Road Crew until 1979 when they moved to a farm near Heimdal where he farmed until 1997. He then worked on the Bill Ongstad farm where he finished a long career, doing the job he loved, in 2012.

Following his retirement, Dallas loved joy riding on his golf cart, driving around the Heimdal area checking the crops, and visiting with everyone who would stop.

He was a member of the Hoff Lutheran Church, the Harvey Eagles Club and the Heimdal Park Board. He was active as a 4-H Leader and received the Honorary Chapter Degree from the Harvey FFA.

Dallas is survived by his wife, Garnet; his son, Chad (Toni) of St. George, UT; his daughter, JoDee Free of Casselton; 2 brothers, Alvin (Sharon) of Paris, IL and Doug (Debbie) of Sidney, MT; sister, Pat (Jeff) Rexine of Chandler, AZ; 2 sisters-in-law, Rosie Free of Bismarck and Julie Free of Phoenix, AZ; 3granddaughters, Samantha Free of Fargo, Stevie (Chris) Scott of Cedar City, UT and Kristen Faucett of Cedar City, UT and 6 great-grandchildren; Lexzi, Karter, Rieley, Gianna, Bentley and Braxton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, LeRoy, Bob and Leo Jr.; and sister-in-law, Margaret Free.

Funeral: Monday, May 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hoff Lutheran Church in Heimdal
Burial: Hoff Lutheran Cemetery
Visitation: Sunday, May 24 from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.
