Dallas Vance Marchus was born on May 26, 1949, in New Rockford, ND, to Oscar and Florence (Thompson) Marchus. He graduated from Cathay High School, and went on to further his education at Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND, and later at Lake Region College in Devils Lake, ND.
On June 15, 1969, he married Marjean Joanne Olson at Grace Lutheran Church in Sheyenne, ND. He joined the Army National Guard in 1969 and served for 9 years. Dallas and Marjean made their home in Carrington, ND, where Dallas served as Deputy Sherriff in Foster County. In 1973 they moved to Fargo, ND, where he worked in security for the Air National Guard.
In December 1974, Dallas began selling insurance for Bankers Life and Casualty. In 1976, the family moved to Wyoming, and he became the Assistant Branch manager with Bankers Life and Casualty. The family then moved to Powell, Wyoming in 1982, and Dallas later transferred from Bankers Life and Casualty to Nelson Associates Insurance. In 1985 the Marchus family moved to Cathay, ND, to be closer to family.
Dallas continued his insurance career, and later began helping his brother with Sunshine Spray Service and later purchased the business. Dallas also was a bus driver for the Fessenden-Bowdon School.
Dallas was a very loving and compassionate husband, father, grandpa, and friend. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and strike up a conversation with anyone who crossed his path.
Dallas most enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors while hunting and fishing.
Dallas was an active member in the AA community, where he served as a sponsor and supporter to many. He proudly celebrated his 25th birthday of sobriety on June 10, 2015.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marjean Olson Marchus, one daughter, Danett (Jon) Rexine, one son, Damon (Amy) Marchus, three grandsons, Riley and Brady Rexine and Grady Marchus, and three granddaughters, Kierstyn and Julia Rexine and Ava Marchus. He is also survived by his two brothers, Donald (Muriel) Marchus and Derle (Linda) Marchus; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dallas is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and brother Dean.
After a courageous, two year battle with cancer, Dallas passed away on October 28th, 2015, while on his bucket list vacation in Oregon, at the home of his daughter and family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at 11:00 AM, at First Lutheran Church in Fessenden, ND. A prayer service will be held Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Arrangements with Nelson Funeral Home.
