Darrell D. Johnson, 68, rural Maddock, died Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Sanford Hospital in Fargo. His funeral will be held Friday, February 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Maddock with burial at the West Minnewaukan Free Church Cemetery of rural Minnewaukan. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Zion Lutheran Church followed by a prayer service at 7 pm at the church. Arrangements with Nelson Funeral Home.

Darrell Duane Johnson, son of Nels and Martha (Morkve) Johnson, was born May 24, 1946 on his parents farm near Flora, ND where he was raised. He received his early education in a nearby country school and later attended the Benson County Agricultural School in Maddock. Following his father's death when Darrell was a young boy, Darrell's mother married Eugene Kanzelman. Darrell worked on the family farm with Eugene for several years. He then moved to the state of Washington where he was employed for a time before returning to North Dakota and accepting a position with Burlington Northern Railroad as a loader operator. Darrell retired from the railroad after over twenty years, but remained active, farming and raising cattle on his farm southwest of Maddock. He also operated a auto wrecker service for a number of years.

Darrell was married to Rosemary Gilderhust, Phyllis Hassett and later Roxanne Beyer.

He is survived by his sons, Derrick (Stephanie) Johnson of Kent, MN, Damian and Kevin (Jessica) Hassett of Washington and Tyler Tollefson of New Rockford; 2 daughters, Nikki Johnson of Maddock and Tasha (Matt) Cree of Minot; 8 grandchildren; and 4 step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
