David Gienger, 99, Harvey, formerly of Anamoose passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at St. Aloisius Long Term Care Center, Harvey.  Funeral Services will be at 2 pm, Friday, May 21, 2021 at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Anamoose with Rev. Paul Nelson officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday, May 20, 2021, from 5:00-7:00 PM, at Nelson Funeral Home, Drake and one hour before services at the church.

David Gienger, son of David and Karolina (Dockter) Gienger, was born May 26, 1921 on his parents farm near Anamoose where he grew up and began farming with his father at an early age.  He attended Roosevelt School No. 2 at Funston.  David was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at St. John's Lutheran Church at Funston.

In 1939, David enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps and served at Foxholm.  Following his discharge in 1940 he returned to the family farm.  In 1947, the Gienger family moved to a farm three miles east of Anamoose where David farmed with his brother Christian.  On October 11, 1980 he married Deloris Hirschkorn Heth in Anamoose.  They made their home in Anamoose and David continued to farm.  Deloris passed away June 23, 2011.

In 1948, David became a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in Anamoose, where he served as usher, elder, vice chairman, chairman, secretary and church cemetery board member.  He also sang in the church choir for many years.

He was clerk of White Township in Pierce County for ten years and also served as township road overseer.  He also served as secretary-treasurer of the Anamoose Wildlife Club for ten years; and secretary-treasurer of the Anamoose Fire Protection District and Anamoose Volunteer Fire Department for fifteen years.  He served on the Board of Directors of the Anamoose Housing Corporation and was the housing complex caretaker for many years.

David also loved sporting events.  He operated the score clock for the Anamoose Royals basketball team from 1955 to 2005.  Fifty years.

Following his retirement in 1991, David stayed active helping an area farmer for many years.  He also enjoyed woodworking.  He made many items which he would give to family and friends as gifts.

David is survived by his two step sons, Leon Heth, New Salem, and Lonnie (Sue) Heth, Minot; step daughter, Laurie (Mark) Glasser, Fargo; seven step grandchildren, Lisa Kitzman, Amanda Heth, Kayla Kunkel, Megan Kossan, Andrew Heth, Cassandra Bartelson and Heather Link; thirteen step great grandchildren, Katelynn, Brienna, Ty, Amber, Bridger, Lydia, Connor, Devon, Quintin, Kenna, Morgan, Grayson, and Layla; one sister, Eva Kessler, Detroit Lakes, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Deloris, two brothers, Christian and Ludvig, and four sisters, Magdaline Marchel, Kathryn Gienger, Caroline Giese, and Amelia Huff.
