Debbie Schmaltz, 62, Fargo, formerly of Anamoose, passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo after a difficult struggle with several health issues. Her prayer service will be held at 7:00 P. M. Thursday, October 25 and her funeral will be held Friday, October 26, at 10:30 A. M., both at St. Francis-Xavier Catholic Church in Anamoose with burial following at the St. Francis-Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements with Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home of Drake.
Debra Jean Axelson, daughter of Fred and Doris (Beil) Axelson was born May 24, 1956 in Valley City. As a child, she moved with her family to Fortuna, CA where she was raised and educated, graduating from Fortuna High School in 1974. In 1977, she returned to Valley City and worked at the Clock Lounge, which her parents owned.
On August 24, 1982, she was married to Mike Schmaltz. They made their home in Anamoose where she owned and operated Schmaltz Greenhouse. She also worked as a waitress at Town and Country Restaurant and the V. F. W. Club in Harvey for many years. She also enjoyed her time as a stay at home Mom. In 2006, she moved to Fargo and had resided there since.
Debbie loved her children and her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends outdoors, working in the garden, and was passionate about fishing and hunting.
She is survived by her children, Tiffani Schmaltz of Harwood and Mikie Schmaltz of Anamoose; granddaughter, Gracie Schmaltz of Anamoose; her companion, Herman Stack of Fargo; 2 sisters, Donna (Mike) Riddle and DeDe (Shannon) McWhorter of Fortuna, CA; a brother, Dennis Axelson of Pahrump, NV; her 3 aunts and an uncle; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents preceded Debbie in death.
