Doris VanEeckhout, 95, Bismarck, formerly of Drake, passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at Sanford Health in Bismarck. Her funeral will be held Friday, January 16, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Drake with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m.. Arrangements with Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home of Drake.
Doris Lain, daughter of Frank and Ruth (Kitchen) Lain, was born January 21, 1919 on her parents farm near Drake where she grew up. She received her education at a nearby country school and later attended Drake High School.
Doris was married to Cornelius 'Con' VanEeckhout on May 1, 1940 at Drake. They made their home on a farm north of Drake where they farmed until retiring in 1976 and moved into Drake in 1981. Con passed away January 14, 2010.
Doris resided at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva for a time before moving to the Good Samaritan Home in Bismarck in March of 2011.
She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church of Drake and its ladies aide. She was also a charter member of the Tip Top Homemakers Club.
Doris is survived by her two daughters, Janice (William) Green of Manito, IL and Ruth (Lyle) Seehafer of Bismarck; one son, Robert (Helaine) VanEeckhout of Bismarck; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Della Stanley of San Bruno, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, LeRoy; her parents; 2 grandchildren, Dennis Goovert and Laura VanEeckhout; one sister, Lillis; and 3 brothers, Howard, Louis and Lynsey.
