Obituary

Dorothy Leier, 82, Bismarck, formerly of Anamoose, passed away Monday, February 20, 2023 at Augusta Place in Bismarck, North Dakota.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Anamoose, North Dakota.  Fr. Thomas Graner will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 28, 2023 with a rosary and vigil service to follow at the church.  The service will be livestreamed on the Prairie Pothole Parish Facebook Page on Wednesday.  Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Home, Drake, North Dakota.

Dorothy Berndt, daughter of Rueben and Wilma (McConkey) Berndt was born May 23, 1940 near Anamoose, North Dakota and grew up on a farm near Anamoose.  She attended school and graduated from Anamoose High School in 1958.  After high school she was employed by the United Community Bank in Drake.

On October 29, 1960, she was married to Harold Leier at Anamoose.  They lived in Rugby and later moved to Sidney, Montana before returned to Rugby where she worked at a steakhouse.  In 1971 they moved to Bottineau, but returned to Anamoose area in 1975 where they owned and operated Harold's Bar until 1977.  Dorothy then went to work for the United Community Bank of Drake. She later went to work for the Anamoose Public School as a custodian and helped in the kitchen and also worked for the Civic Club taking care of the gaming machines in the local bars.

Dorothy was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and Christian Mothers and the Anamoose Civic Club.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Micheal Leier, White Bear Lake, MN, Mitchell (Kristi Millar) Leier, Bismarck, ND, LaRae (Greg) Martin, Martin, ND, Lynell (Chris) Toth, Princeton, MN, and Lucinda Reiswig, Goodrich, ND,  brothers, Ken (Ginny) Berndt, Pelican Rapids, MN, Lyle Berndt, Wheatland, ND, and Gerald, Pine River, MN, ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold in 2003, son-in-law Alan Reiswig, sister Marion, and brothers James and Ron.
