Dorothy Ann Miller, 81, Harvey, formerly of rural Heaton, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017 at St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey. Her funeral will be held Friday, November 10, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Harvey. Arrangements have been made with Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden.

Dorothy Ann Brown, daughter of William and Madelyn Brown, was born in 1936 at rural Heaton where she was raised and received her early education. She later attended Fessenden High School, graduating in 1954. She worked for National State Bank of Fargo until her marriage.

In 1955, Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert Miller at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Fessenden. They made their home and farmed northeast of Heaton where they raised their five children. In addition to working on the farm, Dorothy was also employed at Farmers State Bank in Heaton for a number of years.

In 1986 Dorothy enrolled at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and, upon graduating Magna Cum Laude with degrees in Elementary Education and Fine Arts, she accepted a teaching position in St. Thomas where she continued to teach for a number of years. Following her retirement from teaching, Dorothy continued to reside on the Miller farm northeast of Heaton. Robert passed away in October, 2003.

She is survived by her children, Robert Miller of Heaton, Kimberly Polries of Thompson, Mark (Debbie) Miller of Heaton, Mary Dee (Randy) Bird of Indian Trail, NC and Lori (Don) Henne of Harvey; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, William (Sharon) Brown of Davenport, Iowa; and 2 sisters, Terri (Jim) Heron of Cathay and Mary Jo (Gene) Immel of Millerburg, OH.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and son-in-law, David Polries.
