Obituary

Duane R. Huus, 86 Emrick, ND, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, ND.  Private funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Nelson Funeral Home with Pastor Shirley Teske officiating.  Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Fessenden.  Public visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 2 pm on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the Nelson Funeral Home.

Duane R. Huus was born January 28, 1935 at Hatton, ND, the son of Selmer and Mabel (Brenna) Huus.  He grew up on the family farm southeast of Hatton.  He attended school and graduated from Hatton High School in 1953.  He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.  He married Beverly Mashek on March 2, 1960 in Crookston, MN.  He managed grain elevators in Finley, Sharon, Selz, and Emrick.  He then ran Ag Product Sales in Cathay for several years and sold seed for Pioneer and Proseed.  Beverly passed away on September 20, 2016.

Duane was a member of First Lutheran Church, Fessenden.  He enjoyed fishing, going to the casino, and driving around looking at the crops.

Duane is survived by his children, Sandra (Diego Tijerina) Scott, Grafton, ND, Kevin Huus, Devils Lake, ND, Mark Huus, Devils Lake, ND; and Paul (Melissa) Huus, Pine Island, MN; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Christine, JD, Jacqueline, Jared, Ryan, Ethan, Aaron, and Matthew; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorraine Mehus, Valley City, ND and Darlene Hanson, Superior, WI; half-siblings, Kenneth Bristlin, San Antonio, TX, Deborah (Ronald)  Huus-Peterson, Valley City, ND, Linda Bass, Fargo, ND, Jacqueline (Vincent  Herrera) Huus, Round Rock, TX, Steve Huus, Bismarck, ND, Michael (Theresa) Huus, Austin, TX, Joe Huus, New Salem, ND; Doran (Kathy) Huus, Mandan, ND; and Timothy (Jaydeen) Huus, Gillette, WY.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beverly, son Brian, brother Selmer Huus, JR., sisters Elaine Kelley and Muriel Bjerke, and half sibling Robert Bristlin.
