Elaine C. Senechal, 89, of rural Drake, ND passed away Monday, January 26, 2026 at Trinity Homes in Minot, ND.  Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, January 30, 2026 at the St. Martin Lutheran Church in Anamoose, ND with Rev. Timothy Stout officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, January 29, 2026 at the St. Martin Church.  Burial will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in rural Drake in the spring.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery Fund: 705 44th Street NE Drake, ND 58736.

Elaine was born on January 3, 1937, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, to Merril and Nina Steinke. After graduating from Bordulac High School in 1956, she attended nurses training at St. Luke's in Fargo. It was there that she met Roland, the young man who would become the center of her world, when he offered a ride to a group of nursing students heading to a Gamma Delta church supper. That simple act of kindness sparked a lifelong partnership. They were married on June 21, 1958, in Carrington.

In 1960, after Roland finished college, they settled on the Senechal family farm north of Drake. They raised their children and built a home filled with faith, laughter, hard work, and an unwavering devotion to one another.

Elaine was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Drake until its closure and later joined St. Martin Lutheran Church in Anamoose. Faith was woven into her daily life, not only in worship but in how she cared for others. She served for many years as a dedicated 4‑H leader, cheering on young people as they learned new skills and discovered their own abilities. She also cherished her time with her Homemaker's Club, where friendships were built over shared stories, recipes, and plenty of laughter.

Those who knew Elaine will remember her gentle way of listening, her calm strength, and the warm, welcoming presence she brought into every room. She had a gift for making people feel cared for—whether through a quiet conversation, a thoughtful gesture, or a simple smile that said she truly saw you.

Elaine is survived by her five children: Joan Senechal of Drake, Neil (Kari) Senechal of Bradenton, FL, Marie Senechal of Arvada, CO, Renee (Brett) Senechal-Jorgensen of Roseau, MN, Amy Johnson of Fargo and her sister Pat (Elliott) Annett of Chaska, MN.  She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren and great‑grandson: Ashley (Sean) Gray, Amanda Eidmann (George), Tommi Johnson, Xander Johnson, Gabriel Jorgensen, and Josiah Salgado, who brought her so much joy.

Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved husband Roland; her son Bruce; her parents Merril and Nina; her sisters Judy and Cheryl; her brother James; and her son‑in‑law Corey.

Elaine will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a dear friend. Her warmth, kindness, and quiet strength touched countless lives, and her memory will continue to be a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
