Elaine Irene Vollmer, 90, of Drake, ND, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024 at SMP Health St. Aloisius Long Term Care in Harvey, ND. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 20, 2024 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake, ND. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Balfour Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Balfour Cemetery Fund: 365 40th Street NE Balfour, ND 58712.
Elaine was born on September 13, 1934 in rural Balfour, ND to Ervin and Hilda (Schmidt) Knuth. She went to the country school through 8th grade and graduated from Balfour High School in 1952. On December 12, 1952 she was united in marriage to Melvin Vollmer. She moved to Washington to be with Melvin while he was stationed with the Army at Fort Lewis. They moved back to North Dakota in 1955 and began their lives in farming. They bought a farm NE of Balfour and there they raised their family. Elaine was kept busy with her 9 children, all of the jobs of farm life, gardening, canning and lots of cooking.
Melvin passed away September 3, 1991. Elaine moved to Drake, ND in 1998. In December 2021, she moved to the Sheridan Memorial Home in McClusky, ND and recently to the Harvey Nursing Home. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Balfour until its closing and then of Salem United Methodist Church in Drake.
Elaine is survived by her children, Debbie (Bruce) Jungling, Myra (Kevin) Ziegler, Arlen (Jen) Vollmer, Brian (Kristi) Vollmer, Kelly Vollmer, Galen (Melissa) Vollmer, Darin Vollmer and Leon (Vicki) Vollmer; grandchildren, Eric (Natasha) Jungling, Cheryl (Jim)Walsh, Alex Jungling, Billy (Taylor) Ziegler, Leslie (John) Burkart, Scott (Kristen) Ziegler, Ashley, Mindy, Brandon Vollmer, Nate, Kayla Vollmer, Makenna, Jadyn, Kinley Vollmer and Adrienne Vollmer; fifteen great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Della Vollmer and Rosemary Vollmer; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her son, Barry; twin granddaughters, Courtney and Hayley; her parents, Ervin and Hilda Knuth; parents-in-law, Wilbert ad Ida Vollmer; siblings, Arnold Knuth, Myron (Viola) Knuth, Marlys (Floyd) Driggers; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Vollmer and Allen Vollmer.
The family of Elaine would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the Sheridan Memorial Home and St. Aloisius Nursing Home for the excellent care given to Elaine while in their care.
