Obituary

Emma Westman, 93, of Harvey, formerly of Fessenden, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey. Her funeral will be held Monday, March 10, at 11:00 a.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Harvey with burial at the Manfred Seventh-day Adventist Cemetery at rural Manfred. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.

Emma Bohnet, daughter of Dan and Dora (Rall) Bohnet, was born May 28, 1920 at Fessenden. She grew up in the rural Hurdsfield-Chaseley area where she attended rural school and later Hurdsfield High School.

On December 14, 1941 Emma married Wesley Edward Johnson at the Bowdon Lutheran Church in Bowdon. To this union three children were born, Geraldine Mae, Kenneth Dean and Ronald Lee. Wesley passed away March 30, 1949.

On September 8, 1957 Emma married Willis Westman at the Carrington Seventh-day Adventist Church. They made there home in Fessenden where Emma worked as a cook at the Conner Hotel Café and occasionally babysat for local families. In June of 1966 they moved to Hinsdale, IL where they both worked at the Hinsdale Sanatorium. Emma thoroughly enjoyed her time spent working there. She also worked as a waitress at the Snacktime Café in Hinsdale. Following their retirement in 1981, they returned to Fessenden where they lived until moving to Harvey in 1990. Willis passed away June 22, 2000.

Emma loved to garden, bake, cook and entertain.

She is survived by her daughter, Geraldine Johnson of Bismarck; one son, Ronald Johnson of Downers Grove, IL; her daughter-in-law, Marie Johnson of Fessenden; 6 Grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren; one sister, Martha Haakenson of Audubon, MN; 3 brothers, Allan (Dorothy) Bohnet of Hurdsfield, ND, James (Nancy) Bohnet of Dansville, MI, and LeRoy Bohnet of Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

Emma was preceded in death by her husbands, Wesley and Willis; her son, Kenneth Johnson; her parents; nine brothers, Edward, Benjamin, Arnold, Albert, George, Richard, Emil, Johnny and Melvin Bohnet; and her sister, Bertha Nelson.
