Obituary

Ernest P. Hoff, 89, Bowdon, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington. A private service will be held Thursday, December 10 at 10:30 A. M. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden with burial at Wayside Cemetery in Bowdon. This service will be live streamed on:  BBC Parish - YouTube .   Public visitation will be held Wednesday, December 9 from 3 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the funeral home. CDC recommendations including social distancing, hand sanitizing and staying away if not feeling well are encouraged. Wearing a mask is required.

Ernest Hoff, son of Anton and Inga (Knutson) Hoff, was born February 26, 1931 on the Hoff family farm south of Bowdon where he grew up and began farming with his father at an early age. He received his early education in nearby country schools and graduated from Bowdon High School in 1948.

On October 13, 1955, Ernest was united in marriage to Emma Neumiller in Bowdon. They made their home on the Hoff family farm where Ernest continued to farm with his father and later his brother, Alvin. Following his retirement in 1992, he worked for Brian Tebelius until moving into Bowdon in 1995. He then worked on the Ben Eide farm for several years. Emma passed away January 20, 1997. Ernest continued to live in Bowdon until entering Golden Acres Manor in December of 2015.

Ernest was a lifelong member of the Bowdon Lutheran Church and served as church treasurer for a number of years. He also served on the Bowdon School Board, was treasurer of Progress Township, and served as sexton of Wayside Cemetery in Bowdon for several years.

He is survived by his sons, Wendell (Colleen) Hoff and Jim (Renee) Hoff of Bowdon; 3 grandchildren, Amber (Joe) Fisher of Anamoose and Miranda & Kenda Hoff of Bowdon; 2 great-grandsons, Brock and Blake Fisher; and 1 sister, Mabel Dockter of Carrington.

Ernest was preceded in death by his wife; his son, Steve; his daughter, Donyta; his parents; 6 brothers, Clifford, Alvin, Melvin, James, Harry and infant brother, Larry; and 3 sisters, Aleda Rust, Ella Knodel and Lila Whipple.
