Esther Schilling, 95, Harvey, formerly of Anamoose, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey. Her funeral will be held Thursday, September 10, at 2:00 P.M. at the St. Martin Lutheran Church in Anamoose with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. CDC recommendations including social distancing, hand sanitizing, wearing masks, and staying away if not feeling well are encouraged. Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Home of Drake.
Esther Samuel, daughter of Frank and Anna Samuel, was born October 9, 1924 in Minot. She was raised on the Samuel family farm and received her early education at Roosevelt #1 School. She then attended Anamoose High School, graduating in 1942.
On April 2, 1944 she was united in marriage to Wesley Schilling in Drake. They made their home and farmed on the Schilling family farm southwest of Anamoose until moving into Anamoose in 1966. Following Wesley's death on March 18, 2006, Esther remained in Anamoose until entering St. Aloisius Long Term Care in 2011 due to ill health.
Esther was a longtime member of St. Martin Lutheran Church of Anamoose. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and canning, especially pickles and watermelon.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Lester) Lien of Harvey; 5 grandchildren, Lori (Melvin) Southard of Harvey & Cory (Celeste) Dockter of Kenai, AK, and Desiree Schilling of Harvey, Leslie (Craig) Felchle of Bismarck & Crystal (Matt) Bies of Fisher, MN; and several great-grandchildren.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley; her sons, Jeffrey and infant son Curtis; her parents; brother, Frank Samuel; and sisters, Hulda Finneman and Ella Hauser.
