Obituary

Fern Gunderson, 93, Fessenden, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford. Her funeral will be held Friday, March 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Fessenden with burial at the Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden. Visitation will be held Thursday from 3 P. M. to 5 P. M. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.

Fern Dorothy Severson, daughter of August and Rebecca (Hotchkiss) Severson, was born February 20, 1925 in Fessenden where she grew up and attended Fessenden High School, graduating in 1943. She then worked as a telephone operator in Fessenden for a time.

On October 28, 1945, she was united in marriage to Sidney Gunderson in Fessenden. They made their home on a farm southeast of Fessenden. In addition to taking care of all the household chores, Fern assisted Sidney with farming, milking cows and hauling grain through the years. They moved into Fessenden in 1993. Following Sidney's death December 4, 2004, Fern continued to make her home in Fessenden until entering the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford in December of 2010.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and Ladies Aide of Fessenden. She was also an active member of the local Eastern Star and South Cottonwood Homemakers Club.

She enjoyed bowling, crafts, crocheting and baking.

Fern is survived by her children, Linda Ruble and Ron (Mona) Gunderson of Fessenden; 2 grandchildren, Gary Gunderson and Lindsay (Chris) Johnson; 4 great-grandchildren, Mikaylee, Carter, Sidney and Callen; one sister, June Rost of Harvey; and sister-in-law, Dallas Boatright of Fargo.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; 5 brothers, Robert, Donald, Elmer, George and Harold; 2 sisters, Blanche Martin and Faye Lenz (her twin); and son-in-law, Joe Ruble.

Funeral: Friday, March 23, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church in Fessenden.

Visitation: Thursday from 3 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.

Burial: Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden.
