Francis H. Mayer, 89, of Anamoose, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Trinity Hospital in Minot.
Francis H. Mayer, son of Victor and Clara (Pillatzke) Mayer, was born March 11, 1926 at Anamoose. He grew up on the family farm near Anamoose and attended Anamoose Public School. As a young man he began farming with his father.
On September 1, 1947, Francis was united in marriage to Frances Boehm in McClusky. They made their home north of Anamoose where he continued to farm until retiring in 1979.
Francis was a member of the St. Francis-Xavier Catholic Church of Anamoose where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for several years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5856 of Drake, the Harvey Eagles Club and the Anamoose Senior Citizens Club.
Francis enjoyed traveling with his wife Frances. He also loved to feed the birds, work on needle point projects and cruise around the farm on his John Deere Gator.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frances; one son, Gary (Donna) Mayer of Rapid City, SD; one daughter, Vickie Mayer of Washburn; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Donald (Clara Ann) Mayer of Anamoose and 1 sister, Marcella Nudell of Bismarck.
Francis was preceded in death by his son, Gale; his parents; and 2 sisters, Marie Michelson and Estella Rudnick.
Funeral: Friday, February 19, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Francis-Xavier Catholic Church in Anamoose.
Visitation: Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.
Burial: Riverview Cemetery in Washburn at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
