Frederick Von Kahl, 56, Gillette, WY, formerly of the Heaton area, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017 in southern California from injuries sustained in a work related accident. A graveside service will be held Sunday, June 11, 2017 at 2:00 P. M. At the Heaton Cemetery of Heaton, ND.
Frederick Von Kahl, son of Gordon and Joan (Seil) Kahl, was born October 11, 1960 at Carrington. Throughout Fred's early years, the Kahl family spent the summer months in the Heaton area and wintered in Crane, TX. He attended schools in Bowdon, ND and Crane, TX.
On December 29, 1977 Fred was united in marriage to Claudette King in Odessa, TX. They made their home in Odessa, TX where Fred worked as a Crew Leader for Midway Manufacturing building drilling rigs.
Fred moved his family to Gillette, WY in 1996, and resided in their current home since 1999.
Fred was a driller for all of his adult life. He was involved in seismograph drilling for oil and gas exploration, coal-bed methane wells in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming, water wells in the Black Hills of South Dakota and drilling operations for geo-thermal energy projects throughout the United States.
Fred enjoyed taking his family on camping and hunting expeditions in the Bighorn Mountains and Black Hills of Wyoming. He also enjoyed working on various projects around his home, summer time cookouts with his family, and spending holidays with his family.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Claudette; 2 sons, Colton Kahl of Gillette, WY and Benjamin Kahl of Midland, TX; his mother, Joan Kahl of Carrington, ND; 1 brother, Yorie Kahl; and 2 sisters, Lorna Adkins of Heaton and Loreen Montecino of Beckville, TX.
Fred was preceded in death by his father, Gordon; and 2 sisters, Linda and Lonnie.
