Geraldine 'Geri' Schatz, 90, Velva, formerly of Bergen and Minot, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva. A graveside service will be held Monday, September 25 at 11:00 A. M. at the Balfour Cemetery in Balfour for Geri and her husband Chris who had previously passed away. Following the service, a time of fellowship will be held at the Butte American Legion Hall in Butte. Arrangements with Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home of Drake.
Geraldine Freer, daughter of Clay and Ada (Northcut) Freer, was born October 28, 1926 at Wynne, Arkansas and was raised and educated in Parkin, AR along the Mississippi River.
On February 4, 1946, Geri was united in marriage to Chris Schatz in Tacoma, WA. They made their home on the Schatz family farm near Bergen where they farmed and ranched most of their married lives. In addition to helping Chris with the farm/ranch operation, she was active in community affairs. She served as a McHenry County 4-H Leader for many years, and was a long time member of the Bergen Homemakers Club and the Butte American Legion Auxilliary. In recent years, Geri had resided in Minot until moving to the Souris Valley Care Center of Velva in 2016.
Geri is survived by her children, Colleen (John) Campbell of Casper, WY, Danny (Diane) Schatz of Fargo, Greg (Jackie) Schatz of Minot and Connie (Ed) Sundby of Minot; 9 Grandchildren and 18 Great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris who passed away July 7, 2015; her parents; 1 sister, Mabel Eno; and 2 brothers, Jerry Harden and John Freer.
The family prefers memorials be given to the Balfour Cemetery and the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.
