Gerhart Bahnmiller, 101, Chaseley, died Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, ND. His funeral will be held Monday, October 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bowdon Country Seventh-day Adventist Church of rural Bowdon with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.
Gerhart Bahnmiller, son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Erdmann) Bahnmiller, was born January 3, 1914 at Halliday, ND where he grew up and received his education. He had 5 brothers and 6 sisters.
On March 30, 1937 he married Mary Madche at Dodge, ND. In 1941 they moved to the Chaseley area where they continued to reside and farm until moving to Carrington in 2014. Together they raised a fine family of 5 sons and 2 daughters on their farm.
Gerhart farmed and raised cattle all his life and was very successful. It was what he loved most. He also raised chickens, geese and one year he even raised turkeys. Many times you could catch him enjoying a ride on his favorite lawn tractor. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing with his friends, sons and grandson. He also liked going to cattle auctions whenever possible and reading the Fargo Forum regularly. Gardening and daily walks rounded out his days.
Gerhart is survived by 5 sons, Allan (Judi) of Isanti, MN and Eddie (Marla), Dale, Lowell and Lynn all of rural Chaseley; 2 daughters, Genny Bahnmiller of Fargo and LoAnn (Dan) Heier of Kindred; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Mary, his wife of 78 years; his parents; his siblings and 1 granddaughter, Laurel Ratcliff.
