Gilbert Schander, 102, of Bowdon, ND, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, ND, with his son by his side.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 8:00 PM Friday May 24, 2024 at the Church of God in Bowdon, ND. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Church of God in Bowdon, ND with Pastor Dale Peaslee officiating.  Burial will be at Wayside Cemetery in Bowdon at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: Bowdon Ambulance: 211 Warrington Avenue Bowdon, ND 58418 or to Bowdon Fire Department: 220 Warrington Avenue Bowdon, ND 58418.  Everyone is welcome to livestream the service on the Bowdon Church of God Facebook page.

Gilbert was born March 2, 1922 to John and Amelia Schander in Heaton, ND.  He was united in marriage to Garnet Suckut on November 4, 1942 in Steele, ND.  The couple lived on a farm south of Bowdon, until moving to Bowdon and were married 77 years.

Gilbert is survived by his children, Diana of Bismarck, ND, Jerada (Bill Schluster) of Omaha, NE, Rod (Kathy) of Georgia and Greg (Linda) of Bowdon, ND; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Delores and Lavon Suckut.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Garnet; parents John and Amelia Schander; son-in-law; Fritz Hirschkorn; sisters, Eva, Emma, Molly and Artha; brothers, Adam, Joe, Clarence and Rubin.
