Grace Huss, Alexandria, MN, formerly from Sykeston, ND passed away Friday, September 22, 2017, surrounded by family at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria. Her funeral will be held Thursday, Sept. 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Sykeston with burial at the Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. until 7: 00 P.M. followed by a 7:00 P. M. prayer service and rosary at the church. Arrangements with Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden.
Grace Baumann, daughter of Lewis and Sadie (Jean Blanc) Baumann, was born on August 1, 1927 in Wahpeton, ND. She graduated from Fessenden High School in 1946. She was the mother of eight children, telephone operator, bookkeeper, bank teller, operator/owner of Sykeston Recreation, Hiawatha Dairy Inn and Canal Bar, Avon Representative, served on the Saint Elizabeth's Alter Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Homemakers, and Police Magistrate for the City of Sykeston. She was famous for her homemade brownies and donuts and her welcoming smile
On June 3, 1947, Grace was married to Bernard Huss at Fessenden, ND. They briefly resided in Bowdon, ND and Harvey, ND until 1949 then in Sykeston where they resided until 2005, followed by Devils Lake, ND and Alexandria, MN.
Grace is survived by her six children: Connie (Marlin) Haluska of McAllen, TX, Bernie (Bea) Huss Jr. Of Punta Gorda, FL, Kevin (Debbie) Huss of Appleton, WI, Nancy (Marty) Koenig of Jamestown, ND, Michelle (Lee) Moen of Ballwin, MO and Greg (Tammy) Huss of Alexandria, MN; 20 grandchildren, Carissa Haluska, Becky (Duke) Haluska, Marni (Robert) Saenz, Nicole (Kevin) Forest, Sadie (Jon) Erickson, Joey (Donnie) Amerman, Tracy (Karla) Koenig, Christopher (Mariam) Huss, Jeremy (Katie) Huss, Kimberly (Rob) Johnson, Alec (Frannie) Moen, Brett, Andrew, Sean and Michael Moen, Michael (Cami) Huss, Nathan, Leah, Noah and Nicholas Huss; 22 great-grandchildren: Dane, Rhys, Quin, Cipriana, Mykaela, Jace, Steven, Katie, Kaylee, Karter, Abby, Kennen, Colby, Liv, Hadley, Ellie, Benjamin, Elias, Joseph, Leo, Teresa and Peregrine; her sister, Carol (David) Huss, sisters-in-law: Marlys Baumann; Mary Baumann; Catherine Kutz; Sally (Mick) Wescomb; Pauline (Babe) Reisberg; brothers-in-law: Edwin (Lou Ann) Huss; Robert (Barbara) Huss; and many nieces and nephews.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie; her parents; twin sons, John and Joseph; brothers: Lewis and Donald; sister, Clemence Mertz and brothers-in-law: Lawrence Mertz, Clinton Kutz, Leo Huss, and Raymond Huss.
