H. Morgan Lacy, 68, Fessenden, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016 at Sanford Health in Fargo.
Harry Morgan Lacy, son of Harry Jr. and Eleanora (Blumhagen) Lacy, was born April 8, 1948 at Harvey, ND. His first years were spent on the Lacy farm south of Fessenden. As a child he moved with his family to Minot where he began school at Minot Model. The family later returned to the Lacy family farm and Morgan attended the nearby Cottonwood School until enrolling in the Fessenden Public High School where he graduated in 1966. He then attended the University of North Dakota and, while a student there, met Sheila Austin whom he married on May 30, 1970 in Grand Forks. They made their home in Courtenay, ND where Sheila taught school while Morgan pursued his bachelor's teaching degree in Biology and Chemistry at Valley City State College. He taught at Souris, ND for two years before enrolling in graduate school at NDSU where he was a research and teaching assistant in biochemistry and microbiology. After completing graduate school, he worked in Fargo and Pittsburgh, PA locations as the Laboratory Director and Corporate Director of Quality Assurance for General Nutrition Corporation. In 1988 they moved to Ames, IA where Morgan worked at the Iowa State University Research Park for New Emerging Biotechnology Companies as a laboratory and quality manager. In 1996 they returned to Fargo and Morgan took over the Lacy family farm in Fessenden. In addition to operating the farm, he was employed with Drayton Foods, concentrating on the development of manufacturing standards for several specialty food items. He later worked for Cass Clay Creamery as their Laboratory and Quality Assurance Manager and supervisor of their cultured products produced in North Dakota and Hoven, SD. He also worked as a real estate agent for Better Homes and Garden Agency for a time. In 2005, after moving to the Lacy farm full time near Fessenden, Morgan began work as a crop adjuster with Rural Community Insurance Services and continued this work until his death.
He enjoyed his time spent at the lake home he built on Big Sugar Bush Lake in Minnesota. He loved farming and working with farmers which his job with RCIS allowed him to do. He was an avid gardener and loved long road trips where he could visit relatives along the way. He loved entertaining his family and friends at his farmstead and taking his guests on historical tours of the Lacy families' homestead locations in the Fessenden area.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sheila; 3 daughters, Alison (Richard) Trimble of Des Moines, IA, April Lacy Showers of Moorhead, MN and Anna (Brian) Matcha of Fargo; 6 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Tod and Keith (Lori) of Nevada, IA and 1 sister, Loralee (Eddie) Deitrick of Dayton, IN.
Morgan was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Jesse, and 1 sister, Patricia.
Funeral: Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Fessenden.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
