Obituary

Harland L. Morris, 82, Butte, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Benedictine Living Center of Garrison. His funeral will be held Friday, April 7, at 2:00 p.m. at the Butte Lutheran Church in Butte, with burial in the Butte Cemetery. A prayer service will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home in Drake.

Harland LeRoy Morris, son of Harland and Lilly (Bedell) Morris, was born May 29, 1934 in Brookefield, MO. At an early age, Harland moved with his family to Richmond, CA where he grew up and was later employed. He was once married Rachel Morris.

Harland served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955 and, upon receiving his honorable discharge, returned to California. In 2001 he moved to Butte where he became active in the Butte American Legion, the Butte Senior Citizens and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Harland had a love for children and would many times invite them to his home for pizza. A note from his son Harland III mentioned that he was a good father who gave good advice and instilled in them to use their imaginations as children. He would take them on adventures every weekend when they were young, not telling them where they were going. Later in life, Harland took up painting and did many beautiful paintings. One of his favorite sayings was, "We are all going to Walmart, some will get there sooner than others".

Harland is survived by his children, Antoinette Layton, Rodney Morris and Harland Morris III all of Maryland and Catherine McNeil of Colorado; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his son, Anthony, and his parents.
