Obituary

Harold Boelke, 90, Carrington, formerly of Cathay, died Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington. His funeral was held Saturday, November 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Federated Church in Carrington with burial at the Lakeview Cemetery in Cathay. Visitation was held Friday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.

Harold Boelke, son of Charles and Alma (Bittner) Boelke, was born March 1, 1924 near Cathay. He grew up in the Cathay area and graduated from Cathay High School in 1942. Harold began farming with his father at an early age and in 1946 he took over the family farm. On October 20 of that year, Harold was united in marriage to Myra Edinger in Cathay. He continued to farm and also spent several winters in Minneapolis, MN where he was employed at Grovers Service Station which was owned by his sister and brother-in-law, Marie & Walter Ehrhardt. In 1980 Harold and Myra moved to Fessenden where they spent their summer months and wintered in Phoenix, AZ. Myra passed away February 21, 1989. Following his retirement, Harold remained active helping his son Rod on the farm.

On September 30, 1990 Harold was married to Julia Mindt. They made their home in Cathay during the summer months and spent their winters in Arizona until 2000. In 2008 they moved to Carrington where they have resided since.

Harold was a member of the Federated Church of Carrington and the Harvey Eagles Club.

He is survived by his wife, Julia; daughter, Renee Riedesel of Carrington; son, Rodney (Shirley) Boelke of rural Cathay; 3 step-sons, Dennis (Lorettaux) Mindt of Bismarck, Leon (Penny) Mindt of Beloit, WI and Brian (Julie) Mindt of Valley City; 4 grandchildren, Ryan (Kara) Riedesel, Erin (Andy) Gray, Toni Larson and Kara Boelke; 8 great-grandchildren, A. J., Wayland, Annika and Tempe Gray, Lana & Will Riedesel, Levi Larson and Lexi Heinrich; 6 step-grandchildren, Lance & Lowell Mindt, Shelly Meyer, Lynette Rusert, Cole Mindt and Briana (Nathan) Klebe; and 8 step-great-grandchildren, Grant, Garrett & Gavin Mindt, Marrisa Meyer, Audra, Nadia, Claire & Elena Rusert.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Myra; his parents; his sister, Marie Ehrhardt; and his son-in-law, Pat Riedesel.
