Harold R. Hass, 83, rural Balfour, passed away Friday, December 23, 2016 at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey.

Harold R. Hass, son of Reinhold and Nicoline (Rorstad) Hass, was born August 15, 1933 on the family farm near Balfour where he lived his entire life. He received his first 8 years of education at a nearby country school before attending Drake High School where he graduated in 1951. During the winters of 1956 and 1957, he took several agricultural short courses at NDSU in Fargo.

In 1957 he entered the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge in July of 1963, he returned to the family farm and continued farming with his father and brother.

In 1997 he was united in marriage to Mamie Berndt Sitz in Anamoose.

Harold was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church of Anamoose.

He is survived by his wife, Mamie; 3 step-sons, Ted (Ann) Sitz of Harvey, Joel (Nancy) Sitz of Lancaster, CA and Mark (Linda) Sitz of rural Drake; 2 step-daughters, Sherry (Mike) Boehmer of Devils Lake and Connie (Grady) Watson of Cayce, SC; 10 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald.

Funeral: Friday, Dec. 30, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Anamoose.
Visitation: One hour before the service at the church on Friday.
Burial: Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery of rural Drake.
