Isabel Degenstein, 88, Fessenden, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey. Her funeral will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Fessenden with burial at the Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden. Visitation will be held Monday from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden. A prayer service will be held Monday evening at 7 pm at the church.
Isabel Weigel, daughter of John and Frances (Welk) Weigel, was born September 22, 1925 at Orrin where she grew up and received her education.
On November 14, 1945 she was married to Edward Degenstein at Orrin. They made their home in Orrin until 1955 when they moved to Fessenden where they operated the local creamery for a time. Isabel also worked for Sawyer Dry Cleaning for several years before beginning her work as a waitress and cook for local cafes which she continued to do for 23 years. Following her retirement she remained in Fessenden until entering the St. Aloisius nursing home in 2012. Her husband Edward passed away August 3, 1982.
Isabel is survived by her son Dale (Judy) Degenstein of Fargo; her daughter Karin (Daniel) Reimche of Harvey; 6 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Antonia Brossart of Lakota and Rita (Harold) Gefroh of Drake; and 3 brothers, Marcus Weigel of Stockton, CA, Balzer Weigel of Monroe, WA and Quentin (Trudy) Weigel of Minot.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Leon; her parents, and one brother, Joseph.
