Ivar A. Haugen, 91, rural Maddock, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey. His funeral will be held Friday, December 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Viking Church at rural Maddock, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church. Arrangements with Nelson Funeral Home.
Ivar A. Haugen, son of John and Oline (Myrum) Haugen, was born, March 10, 1923 on the family farm in Arne Township, near Maddock, ND where he grew up and attended country school. He began farming with his father as a young man and later took over the family farm.
On November 15, 1947, Ivar was united in marriage to Elnor Trimmer at Maddock. They made their home on the Haugen farm where Ivar continued to farm until his retirement in 1995.
He was a member of the Viking Church of rural Maddock; the Harvey Eagles and the Sons of Norway of Maddock.
Ivar is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elnor; his son, Michael (Deborah) Haugen of rural Maddock; 2 grandchildren, John (Melanie) Haugen and Edward (Denise) Haugen; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory; his daughter, Vaughn; his parents; sisters, Myrtle Haugen, Judith Barr and two sisters who passed away at an early age, both named Thordis Elvina Haugen; and brothers, Obert Haugen, Melford Haugen, Selvin Haugen and Ryder David Haugen who passed away in infancy.
