James A. Uhlich, 78, rural Drake, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2020 at his home south of Drake, surrounded by his loving family.  A private service will be held at St. Margaret-Mary Catholic Church in Drake with burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Home of Drake.

James Arthur Uhlich, son of Arthur and Edna (Henne) Uhlich was born September 30, 1941 in Drake. He grew up on the family farm south of Drake and attended a nearby country school through the eighth grade. Following his graduation from Drake High School in 1959 he attended the North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo for two years.

Jim begin farming with his father at an early age and eventually took over the farm. On June 26, 1961, he was united in marriage to Marion Miller at Orrin. They made their home on the Uhlich farm where they farmed, milked cows and raised their seven children. Jim spent his entire life on the land he loved.

He was a member of St. Margaret-Mary Catholic Church of Drake.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marion; his 7 children, Linda Uhlich of Anamoose, Wanda (Keith) Fischer of Fargo, Anthony (Melissa) Uhlich of Kief, Renee (Manmohan 'Pierre') Devsi of Wahpeton, Richard (Sonja) Uhlich of Drake, Karen (Walter) Pyles of San Antonio, TX and Paula Kummer of Minot; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Shirley Neuharth of Drake.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Daniel Uhlich; and son-in-law, Terry Kummer.
