Janis Dislevy, 77, Butte, died Thursday, June 9, 2016 at her home near Butte.
Janis Ann Dislevy was born August 7, 1938 to Arthur and Elsie (Michalenko) Dislevy on the family farm south of Butte where she was raised. Janis was a life member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Butte where she was baptized and confirmed. She received her elementary and high school education in the Butte Public School and graduated in 1956. Janis was active in various organizations while attending high school. While in high school she attended North Dakota Girls State in 1955. Janis was an active 4-H member and attended the National 4-H Club Congress in 1955. She received the God-Home-Country award at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in 1955.
Janis graduated from Minot State University with a degree in business education in 1960. While attending college Janis was a member of Delta Epsilon Phi Sorority. After graduation from MSU she taught business and home economics at Drake High School for one year before moving to California in the fall of 1961.
In 1976 Janis received a M.S. degree in education from Wayne State College in Wayne, NE and later a M.A. degree in vocational education from the Consortium of the California State University and Colleges in Sacramento, California.
In 1985 she earned her Certificate in Personal Financial Planning from the University of California, University Extension on the Davis Campus. In 1986 Janis met Walter Blau in Sacremento, CA. They owned a home in Citrus Heights, CA but much of their time was spent in Yuma, AZ where they wintered, and on the Dislevy farm near Butte during the summer months. Janis was proud to be the owner of a North Dakota Centennial Farm which was homesteaded in 1902 by her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Miron Dechlevy. She was grateful that she was raised in North Dakota. Although she was employed outside of North Dakota she loved returning to Butte to spend time on the family farm.
For several years she was an adult education instructor and substitute teacher in school districts in the Sacramento, California area. She was employed by Aerojet General Corporation for two years. She was employed with the State of California for 22 years as stenographer, secretary, accounting technician, accountant and accounting officer, retired from the State of California in 1999. In addition to her work experience her travels have taken her to 17 countries.
Janis is a life member of the National Association of Investors Corporation and American Association of Individual Investors. She was a director with the Sacramento Area Chapter of NAIC where she has held the offices of secretary and vice president. As a NAIC director, she had the opportunity to study at the New York Stock Exchange.
She is a trustee with the Wayne State Foundation, Wayne, Nebraska. In 2008, Janis was inducted into Minot State University's Old Main Society. She is a member of Minot State University College of Business Dean's Advisory Board.
Janis was an active member of Butte Senior Citizens, Butte Alumni Association, Drake Threshing Association and the North Dakota Lewis & Clark Fort Mandan Foundation, Inc.
She is survived by the love of her life, Walter Blau; cousins, Georgean Gullickson and Karen Jochims; and other family members and friends.
Her parents preceded her in death.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorial be given to the Butte Cemetery, St. Paul's Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
Funeral: Monday, June 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Butte
Visitation: One hour before the service on Monday at the church.
