Jean Ann Koenig, 76, Fessenden, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND, from complications due to end stage dementia.

Jean Ann Hendrickson, daughter of Ernest and Lois (Wiseman) Hendrickson, was born January 5, 1941, in Carrington, ND. She was one of three children. She was raised in New Rockford, ND and graduated from New Rockford High School. She then attended Fargo Business College and, upon completing college, she worked at the Eddy County Court House.

Jean Ann was married to Marvin Koenig on January 27, 1961. Through this union, four children were born. The couple's farmstead is in the Fessenden, ND area.

Jean Ann continued to use her college skills as she served as township secretary, church secretary, AWANA Director, and in various roles in her children's school activities. She was hired for a secretarial position at the Fessenden-Bowdon Public School where she worked many years until she retired at the age of 71. She loved interacting with the students and her dear co-workers.

Jean Ann's passion was loving her great-grandchildren, grandchildren, children, and family to the fullest. She was an artist, musician, Bible teacher, gardener, farm wife, an amazing cook and baker, avid reader, and animal lover. She loved holidays, but at Christmas, the farmhouse became magical. Jean Ann enjoyed finding cards for people for every occasion and they always seemed to contain the perfect message and many times a special note in her gorgeous handwriting. Jean Ann attended Calvary Baptist Church NAB in Carrington, ND.

Jean Ann is survived by her husband, Marvin, Fessenden, ND; three sons, Todd (Connie), Roseau, MN, Mark (Jodi), Fayetteville, GA, and Paul, Midwest City, OK; one daughter, Lori (Kevin) Maddock, Sandy, UT; six grandchildren, Brittany Koenig (Jordan)Sharp, Michael Koenig, Jared (Kristy) Koenig , Mathew (Brooke) Koenig, Kayla Maddock, and Jessica Maddock (Andrew)Adams; and four great grandchildren, Westin & Sawyer (Jared & Kristy), Greyson (Jessica & Andrew), and Adley (Mathew & Brooke). Jean Ann is also survived by her beloved sister, Harriet VanLith of Minot, ND and beloved sister-in-law, Doris (Kim) Leik of Cathay, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Samuel Prentice; in-laws, Edward and Lorene (Keller) Koenig; beloved sister, Marlys Hendrickson; and brother-in-law, Peter VanLith.

The family wishes to express loving gratitude to all those who have assisted with the care giving, love, and support Jean Ann received including family, friends, and the staff at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.

Funeral: Monday, October 9, 2017 at 11:00 A. M. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Carrington, ND.
Visitation: Sunday from 3:00 P. M. to 6:00 P. M. at Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.
Burial: Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden, ND.
