Jerome A. Gallagher, 75, Fessenden, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck.

Jerome Gallagher was born October 8, 1940 at rural Maddock, ND and was raised by his mother and step-father, Agnes (Tangen) and Tony Omoth. Most of Jerome's childhood was spent in the Bremen area where he received his education.

On February 17, 1962 he was married to Shirley Pechia at Detroit Lakes, MN. They lived in the Detroit Lakes area for a year before moving to Oregon where they lived a short time. In 1964 they moved to Bremen after Jerome accepted a position as blade operator for the Wells County road crew. They moved to Fessenden in the late 1960's when he was transferred to that area as blade operator. With the exception of a five year period when he worked for Fessenden Co-Op Elevator, Jerome continued to work for the Wells County road crew until his retirement in 2002. Not being one to sit idle, Jerome also worked as a truck driver for Fessenden Machine for several years and as a farm laborer for several Fessenden area farmers including Wayne Hildenbrand and Tom Nudd. In recent years he kept busy helping the elderly with mowing grass and blowing snow.

Jerome was a former member of the Fessenden Volunteer Fire Department and the Fessenden Ambulance Squad. He enjoyed attending car races, fishing, hunting and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley; two sons, Allen of Fessenden and Steve (Nancy) of Bottineau; 2 grandchildren, Riley and Courtney; 2 sisters, Terry Perkins of Bismarck and Marie Johnson of Fessenden; and 1 brother, Thomas Omoth of Edmonds, WA.

Jerome was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Wayne Gallagher and LeRoy Omoth.

Funeral: Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 10:30 a. m. at the First Lutheran Church in Fessenden.

Visitation: Friday from 3 p. m. to 6 p. m. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.

Burial: Hillside Cemetery of Fessenden.
