Joan Rodacker, 83, Bismarck, formerly of Bowdon, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck. Her funeral will be held Monday, September 23, at 11:00 A.M. at the Bowdon Country Seventh-day Adventist Church of rural Bowdon with burial in the Wayside Cemetery of Bowdon. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.

Joan Kroeger, daughter of Edward and Margaret (DeMuynck) Kroeger, was born June11, 1936 on the family farm near Lidgerwood. She grew up on the farm and attended a nearby country school.

On September 19, 1957, Joan was united in marriage to Howard Rodacker at Breckenridge, MN. They made their home in Bowdon until moving to Kindred in 1964 where they lived a short time before returning to Bowdon. In 1967 they moved to Steele where Howard was employed at the local Chevrolet dealership and Joan began working as a waitress at the Lone Steer Restaurant. She also worked as a CNA at the Golden Manor nursing home in Steele for several years. In 1981 they moved to Gladstone where they lived until returning to Bowdon. Joan then began EMT training and became very active in the Bowdon Volunteer Ambulance. Following Howard's death in 2009, Joan remained in Bowdon until moving to Bismarck in 2013

Joan enjoyed reading, playing Pinochle, cribbage, crocheting, embroidering and attending many sport and musical activities that her children and grandchildren participated in. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and writing pen pal notes to one of them!

She is survived by her children, Mark of Dickinson, Keith of Bismarck, Lynette (Bruce) Schumaker of Bismarck, Blaine (Judy) of Huron, SD and Michael (Katrina) of Bismarck; 9 Grandchildren; 7 Great-grandchildren; one sister, Madeline Baumann of Valley City; and in-laws, Virgil and Dorothy Rodacker of Bakersfield, CA., Lewis and Donna Johnson of Bowdon, Arlene Rodacker of Carrington and Peggy Rodacker of Danbury, WI. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband Howard, her parents Edward and Margaret Kroeger, a half-brother, Edward Kroeger, a half-sister, Ascienth Kroeger, and in-laws Fred and Alvina Rodacker, Darwin Rodacker, Winston Dennis Rodacker, Darlene Rodacker and Clifford Baumann.
