Joyce Rudel, 96, Wishek, ND formerly of Fessenden passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the Wishek Community Hospital surrounded by family.  Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am, Saturday, August 28, 2021 at First Lutheran Church, Fessenden, ND.  Pastor Shirley Teske will officiate and burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Fessenden, ND.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, Friday, August 27, 2021 at the Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Selma Joyce Kro was born at home September 24, 1924 by Flora ND to Lars & Selma (Rogelstad) Kro. Joyce grew up on multiple farms going to country schools until moving to Fessenden in the 5 ^th grade.  She participated in softball, cheerleading, track and running as well as singing in the choir and played the clarinet in the band.  Joyce graduated in 1942 from Fessenden High School and then moved to California with her sister Bernice and worked at the Naval Ammunitions Depot.  She met and married James Glennon, moved to Philadelphia and had two children, Patrick & James Glennon Jr.  Joyce moved back to North Dakota when the boys were 5 and 6 years old.  She married Kenneth Rudel March 19, 1954, when Pat & Jim were 8 and 9 years old.  They lived on the Hwy15 farm for 15 years and then built and moved into town in 1969.  They had four children, Janel Joy, Kurt Gustave, Kay Lorraine and Paul Kennedy.

Joyce loved walking, golfing, bowling, picnics with the neighbors, shenanigans with her sister Olive, dancing, winters in AZ and her family.  She was active in the First Lutheran Church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and participating in the Women's Groups.  She was also active in her Homemakers Club, Fessenden Legion Auxiliary and was a Gold Star mother.  She was an excellent cook and fed her farmers very well.  After the passing of husband Kenneth in 1991, Joyce moved to Bismarck in 1994 and to Wishek in 2013.

Joyce is survived by three sons, Jim & Jeannine Glennon of Canby OR, Kurt & Jeanne Rudel and Paul & Janell Rudel of Fessenden, daughter Kay and Greg Weber of Wishek ND and son-in-law Dave Gaugler of Bismarck ND. She was also survived by Grandchildren Georgia, Patrick, Phillip, Linsey (Adam), Matthew (Emily), Dylan (Lexi), Paige (Beau), Elliott and Olivia as well as 14 Great Grandchildren.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Lars & Selma Kro, son Patrick Glennon, husband Kenneth Rudel, Grandson Jack Weber and daughter Janel Gaugler as well as siblings Bernice, Gilma, Olive, Melvin and Jim.
