June Jesse Kahl, 91, Carrington, formerly of Bowdon, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at CHI Carrington Medical Center in Carrington.
June Phyllis Mielke, daughter of Carl and Ida (Fuhrman) Mielke, was born June 8, 1928 in rural Wells County. She grew up in Wells County, ND with the exception of four years the family lived in Frazee, MN. She graduated from Bowdon High School in 1946 and attended Valley City Normal School after which she taught for two years in rural schools.
On October 15, 1947 she was united in marriage to Vernon Jesse in Bowdon. They made their home and farmed southeast of Bowdon until retiring and moving into Bowdon in 1992. In addition to farming, beginning in 1957 she and Vernon owned and operated the old Bowdon Café for several years and in the mid 1960s, June worked as a teller for farmers state Bank of Heaton.
June was a longtime member of the Bowdon Lutheran Church where she held several offices and, after moving into Bowdon, she managed the Bowdon Housing Project until 2003. She also served as director and was one of the original founders of the Bowdon Museum.
Following Vernon's death on March 3, 2005, June remained in Bowdon until moving to Carrington in 2007 and became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. On December 1, 2012 she was married to Wesley Kahl in Carrington.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her parents and her brother, Clarence.
She is survived by her husband, Wesley of Carrington; two sons, Terry (Mary) Jesse of Bowdon and Richard (Patricia) Jesse of Bismarck; one daughter, Bette (John) Lund of Sioux City, IA; four grandchildren, Jeramy (Jen) Lund of Kingsley, IA, Shari (Ty) Tadlock of Sioux City, IA, Jacqueline (Tim) Wood of Mandan and Jennifer (Derek) Bernhardt of Bismarck; five great-grandchildren, Erik & Alex Lund of Kingsley, IA, Garrett Dekker of Sioux City, IA and Tristin & Trevin Wood of Mandan. Also surviving are two sisters, Lois Ketelle of Alexandria, MN and Marlys Jensen of Big Fork, MT and several nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held at Wayside Cemetery in Bowdon.
