Kenneth L. Gross' Obituary
Kenneth Gross, 84, Carrington, formerly of Alexandria, MN and Fessenden, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Golden Acres Manor nursing home in Carrington. His funeral will be held Wednesday, November 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington with burial at the Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden, Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 pm to 7 p.m. at the church , followed by a prayer service at the church. Arrangements with Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden.
Kenneth Gross, son of Adolph and Christine (Rudel) Gross was born April 11, 1930 at Fessenden where he was raised and educated. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and, following his honorable discharge, he returned to the Fessenden area.
On July 15, 1955 he was married to Alice Erfle in Fargo. They made their home in Fessenden and Kenneth worked on construction crews building missile sites throughout North Dakota and also worked on the construction of the Garrison Dam. In the early 1960s they moved to Carrington where Kenneth worked for Eldo Lee Construction and later for Klocke Construction. They moved to Alexandria, MN in 1969 where Kenneth worked for Hubbard Milling until 1987 when he retired due to ill health. They lived in Elk River, MN for a short time before moving to Carrington in 2012.
Kenneth was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Carrington. He was also a member of the Eagles Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed playing cards, playing bingo and getting together for family gatherings. He also enjoyed entertaining in his decorated garage where he spent many hours. Kenneth was proud of his hat collection which he acquired from the many places he visited.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; 2 sons, Lee (Gloria) Garrett of Carrington and Mel (Sandi) Gross of Fargo; 2 daughters, Sharon (Jerry) Hatfield of Centerville, IA and Julie (David) Ayers of Pendleton, OR; 44 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Margaret Kuske of Jamestown; and 1 brother, Wesley Gross of Fessenden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald; and sisters, Esther, Laverne and Edna.
